Child Psychotherapeutic Counsellor
Emily Burns is a Child Psychotherapeutic Counsellor who specialises in work with children, young people and their parents using play and creative arts. She has additional training in Dyadic Developmental Informed Psychotherapy and Theraplay and is experienced in attachment based relational interventions between children and their carers. She has an interest and additional training in trauma related symptoms and will integrate somatic based approaches, CBT, psychoeducation and mindfulness approaches. Emily has worked in child mental health for over twelve years including five years with adopted children and their parents. She has worked in primary and secondary schools to deliver therapy programmes and teacher training as well as for specialist organisations with children with medical conditions, refugee children and in The Priory CAMHS service. Emily’s background is in performance, choreography and theatre and she brings those skills into her work with children and families to facilitate emotional expression. Emily is also a qualified yoga teacher.
